The paper aims to reassess the entire architectural and archaeological evidence of the southern part of the sanctuary of Zeus Olympios. This includes the oikos near the SE corner of the big temple (with two building phases dated respectively to the mid-6th century and to the first half of the 5th century), and the area with a large pool and two halls located to the south. This is equipped with a complex drainage system connected with two big cisterns. All these structures can now be referred to as a coherent building program carried out from 480 to 450 B.C. The sanctuary of Zeus Olympios at Agrigento has been not perceived in its entirety till now. As a matter of fact, while the temple attracted the scholars’ interest, due to its outstanding features, the buildings surrounding it were referred to residential (W), military (S) and civic (“agora” E/NE) functions. Besides, a sacellum and a pool on the south-eastern side were attributed to the age of Timoleon, later than the main architectural phase. During geo-archaeological research on the slope where the source associated with the Essarois (Côte-d'Or) cult site is located, in the locality of La Cave, an anatomic votive offering of a human foot was discovered in the alluvial sedimentary deposits. Carved from local oolitic limestone, it is rather crude in appearance but it is possible to make out that it has the unusual number of six toes. Although it may have been a blunder or the result of negligence by the sculptor, the phenomenon may equally have been a deliberate representation of a case of polydactyly, a malformation that was known in Antiquity.

The available documentation (archaeological data from former and new excavations, written sources) regarding the eastern areas of Gaul is quite copious, offering the possibility to get on main questions about the evolution of the traditional paganism between the Early Empire and Late Antiquity. This collation and classification of sources allows, in particular, to put forward a rather precise phasing of events concerning the changes in cult practices as well about the transformation of equipments and cult sites.

The volume is the edition of the old excavations carried out in Segesta, at the Sanctuary of Contrada Mango, between the 1950s and the 1960s of the twentieth century. The sanctuary is located on the south-eastern slopes of Mount Barbaro. It has returned a monumental peribolos and the remains of a peripteral temple. The sacred area documents phenomena of cultural interaction between the Elymian center and the Hellenic environment (Selinuntine first of all) in the Archaic and Classical Ages. The review of bronze finds from the excavations carried out in the contrada Gaggera sanctuaries from 1888 until 1925 as well as in the sixties and seventies of the last century, and the reading of old excavation notebooks have allowed the identification of a huge number of unpublished weapons. This evidence has also been considered in relation to what has been published by Ettore Gabrici in the 1927 edition of the Malophoros sanctuary. The study better clarifies the finding context of these materials (from the sanctuary of Demeter Malophoros or from the sacred area of Zeus Meilichios) and provides an overview of the different types of weapons.
